Amid a still struggling economy, more Americans fell below the poverty line last year, according to new census data released Tuesday.
The nation's poverty rate rose to 15.1% in 2010, its highest level since 1993. About 46.2 million people are considered in need.
It is a big shift in the economics in this country where the distribution of wealth is over and over concentrated in the hands of the rich elite who are the sacred cows by the Republicans, now the bitter fruit with increasing poverty levels and the need for public assistance. All this explains the economic problems facing the nation.
The redistribution of wealth is important and the adequate taxation of the wealthy is a must. Shifting some wealth to the poor will improve the economy immensely.
